Fr. Steven Kwon

I was born in Vancouver, BC. on October 26, 1975 (currently 43 years old) and I am eldest child of two boys (James is 3 years younger than me).  My parents immigrated to Canada in 1970 from South Korea. My father is a business man and my mother worked at a Korean restaurant for many years. My parents separated in 1993. My mother (71 years old) lives in Toronto and my father (67 years old) lives in South Korea. James is married, lives in Denver, Colorado, USA and has one daughter, Cameron.

I attended elementary and High school in California, USA and Mexico. I have an undergraduate degree in Philosophy and a Masters degree in Theology from a University in Rome, Italy (Regina Apostolorum).

After receiving the Masters degree, I was ordained to the priesthood at 33 years of age on  December 20, 2008 for a religious order in Rome. After ordination, I was assigned to a church in South Korea (3 years) and in Ireland (1 year).

In 2012, I decided to become a priest for the Archdioceses of Toronto. I was assigned as associate pastor at St. Justin Martyr (2 years), St. Michael’s Basilica Cathedral (2 years), administrator of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Etobicoke (1 year) and St. Edith Stein Parish in East York (1 year).

I was named associate pastor at St. Joseph the Worker on Feb 1, 2019. As a result of my extensive travels, I speak 5 languages fluently including Korean, Italian, Spanish, French, and English.

My mother is currently living in Toronto and is overjoyed that I am living close to her.

In my spare time, I enjoy hockey, skiing, and golf. I am incredible happy to be assigned to this parish and I look forward to serving all of you as your associate pastor.
